Simple. To Stop War Crimes, End War

This week, pompous hypocrites filled the news space with talk of war crime tribunals. In an unprecedented move, Biden ordered the U.S. to share evidence of war crimes with international courts. During the same news cycle, America and allies threatened to pull aid from Niger, the poorest country in the world, because “they” overthrew a government “we” like.

Speaking out of both sides of the American mouth is expected but let’s face it, there really are no rules in war. If you declare, killing, destruction and overtaking nations, you can’t just say, oh yeah, except for what I think isn’t fair. If you step back, it sounds ludicrous, especially if you live in the middle of the fighting.

Dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and then Nagasaki, destroying and maiming, not only the present population but also future generations, sounds like a war crime. As if one atom bomb wasn’t enough. Not clear in the Hollywood version, but haunted by personal history, Oppenheimer pushed the agenda to see his work manifested, even though the war was virtually over.

That nuclear holocaust was avoidable. Yet neither he nor Harry Truman faced a war crime tribunal. No doubt both should have been held accountable at least by Japan. Culturally different to add irony to insult, Japan apologized to South Koreans for their acts of war. America took a pass and apparently, the buck didn’t stop on Harry’s desk as preached.

In theory, kudos to all in the administration defending citizens with war crimes talk but unless you remove nonmilitary people before the war, its double talk. We mercilessly carpet bombed plenty of civilians with napalm in Vietnam and Cambodia too, (who we were not even at war with), horrifically burning civilians alive as they ran for cover. We took a pass there too.

Slow to the punch EU is not without guilt either, weakly joining American on any actions—weapons of mass destruction, Russian sanctions, purely to gain favor. If the high, noble and mighty allies want to avoid civilian casualties. Avoid war! To quote the son of the late Sinead O’Connor, (both of whom are sadly gone). “The failure of men is to pick up a knife as quick as a pen.”

War crime tribunal logic is laughable. Obviously, Putin doesn’t give a damn about your semantics. So, stop the sanctimonious banter. If you are really concerned about the death of innocent civilians, hang up the war crimes sideshow and stop funding wana-be war star Vladimer Zelenskyy. Then civilians will be safe.
